Dennis confident of McLaren gains in Malaysia

McLaren Group chairman Ron Dennis believes the Woking based team will be at least half a second faster next time out in Malaysia following an impressive opening race in Melbourne, Australia where Kevin Magnussen was promoted to second while Jenson Button was also promoted to a posium in third place following Daniel Ricciardo's exclusion from the race.

The result means that McLaren currently lead the Constructors championship on 33 points. Despite this however Dennis said 'What we intend to be, as fast as possible, is a winning Grand Prix team'.

He went on to say 'These intercontinental races limit how fast you can develop the car but nevertheless we will give it our best shot'.

The Woking based teams last podium came at the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix, a race which Jenson Button won. Dennis believes that the team's start to the 2014 season has helped the team as he said: 'It will give them the belief in the direction and the guidance that is in the company'.

Kevin Magnussen has certainly shown that the team made a great choice in promoting him from their young driver programme.
