Engine failure ends Button's test early

(McLaren Mercedes)

McLaren Mercedes Jenson Button was forced to end the Woking based team's winter test programme early after the MP-29 suffered an engine failure to a high mileage power unit.

Up until the stoppage, it had not been the best day for Button as he had only completed 21 laps for the team and set the 8th fastest time of the session.

Despite the failure McLaren can be satisfied with their work during the pre-season period as they have shown that they have an extremely quick car and it has proven to be very reliable. Both Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen have topped the timesheets during winter testing.

The team head to Australia where they have previously with Jenson Button and with the Mercedes power unit proving to be the strongest so far during winter testing McLaren could be on for a great result Down Under.
