American Haas planning F1 entry

It has been reported this evening that NASCAR team owner Gene Haas has lodged an application with the FIA to become Formula One's 12th team after the FIA announced that it was seeking application's for a new F1 team to enter the sport from as early as 2015.

Gene Haas has been involved in NASCAR since 2002 and in 2008 they teamed up with NASCAR start Tony Stewart to launch Stewart Haas Racing.

Haas operates out of a facility in Charlotte, North Carolina and it has been reported that the team recently expanded it's base which could be a prelude to an entry into Formula One. The company also owns a base in Brussels which would be an ideal site to base an F1 operation as it would allow easy access to Grand Prix venues.

A second base in America would also be ideal due to there being event's in Canada and Texas and proposed event in New Jersey.

It has been reported that should the company known as Haas Racing Developments get the green light for an F1 entry they would enlist the help of Italian chassis manufacturer Dallara.

Formula One has grown in popularity in the United States in recent years and a US Formula One team would be perfect to help the sport really take off State side.

As for an engine supplier? Honda could very well provide the team with engine's, however, this is unlikely as the Japanese manufacturer will only return to F1 in 2015 however they have stated that they would be willing to supply more then one team.

The FIA is set to make a decision on who will be awarded the place on the Formula One grid in the coming months.
