Red Bull expect initial reliability issues

(Ben Johnston 2014)

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner believes  that we could see at least half of the field retire from the first race of the season in Australia. Formula One will switch to 1.6 litre V6 turbo charged power units from this season.

Testing gets underway in just under two weeks time and with only 12 day's of winter testing available to the team's it is going to be essential for the teams to work on reliability and we could in for a surprise winner in the first race.

It is expected however, that the likes of Renault (Who supply engines to Red Bull), Ferrari and Mercedes will be in a prime position heading into the opening race as they have the knowledge of working on road cars.

This season more it is not just the power units that have changed but Formula One will also have Energy Recovery System which will provide driver's with extra torque and as a result drivers will have to change their driving style so we could have a situation where rookie drivers could do extremely well.
