Could Sony and Playstation be McLaren's new title sponsor?

According to reports emerging in Japan Sony and Playstation could be on the verge of being announced as McLaren's new title sponsor replacing Vodafone.

If the reports are to be believed it would be a fantastic move for the Woking based team who are set to use Honda engines from the 2014 season onwards.

It would also make commercial sense for Sony as Formula One is a fantastic stage to launch marketing campaigns from. Sony would be the only technology giant involved in sponsoring a top Formula One team as Mercedes AMG are sponsored by BlackBerry.

As for Vodafone the conclusion of their partnership with McLaren brings to an end their long association with Formula One team sponsorship as prior to their title sponsorship deal with McLaren they were heavily involved with Ferrari. It remains to be seen if Vodafone will pull out of Formula One altogether or will they continue to have a trackside presence on advertising banners.

However, I believe that the conclusion of their McLaren partnership will end Vodafone's involvement with Formula One altogether.

What to you think of the possibility of Sony becoming Mclaren's new title sponsor?
