Paul Di Resta in line for Mercedes reserve role

Ben Johnston 2014

The Mercedes AMG F1 team are hopeful that they will be able to keep former Force India driver Paul Di Resta involved in F1 after the Scot announced today that he will drive for Mercedes in the German Touring Car Championship.

It is very possible that this will work as Di Resta did the same in 2010 when he won the DTM championship he drove for Force India as a reserve driver and was promoted to race driver in 2011. Mercedes currently have GP2 driver Sam Bird and former F1 driver Anthony Davidson as their reserve drivers.

Di Resta has had a great relationship with Mercedes in the past as prior to his arrival into F1 he drove for them in DTM and then of course their engine's powered the Force India team and now he is back with them for this season.

We'll just have to wait and see whether Mercedes can work out a deal for the Scot as it would be shame if he was no longer involved in F1.
