New race engineer for JEV paves the way for Smedley to join Williams

    (Ben Johnston 2014)

Toro Rosso driver Jean Eric Vergne has confirmed that he will have a new race engineer for this season. Xevi Pujolar joins the Italian team from Williams where he held the position of Chief Race engineer.

His move paves the way for Ferrari's Rob Smedley to join the Grove based squad as Chief Race engineer teaming up once again with Felipe Massa who joined Williams over the Winter as Valtteri Bottas' team mate for 2014.

While confirming the appointment of his new race engineer JEV also confirmed that his old engineer Phil Charles has been promoted to role of chief engineer.

The news is the latest in a long list of engineering changes up and down the pit-lane. Kimi Raikkonen will have a new race engineer this season as Antonio Spagnolo will take up the role that was held by Mark Slade during Kimi's time at the Lotus F1 Team. It is unclear what Slade's plans will be for this season but it is possible that he will remain at Lotus this season potentially as Pastor Maldonado's new engineer.

Kimi Raikkonen's former Ferrari race engineer, Andrea Stella is now Fernando Alosno's race engineer so it will be extremely interesting to see how Kimi gets on with his new engineer.
