BREAKING: Ecclestone set to face trial in Germany

According to reports in the UK tonight Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone looks set to face charges in Germany arising from alleged payments he made to a German banker when the sport was sold over ten years ago.

The report says that prosecutors in Munich will formally announce that they intend to bring criminal charges against Mr Ecclestone on Thursday. It is expected that Ecclestone's trial will commence on April 23rd. It has also been suggested that Ecclestone will step down from the board of Formula One's parent company pending the outcome of the proceedings.

However, it is expected that he will continue the day to day management role of the sport. Peter Brabeck, the chairman of Nestle who is also on the Formula One board is believed to be on the verge of taking up a more hands on role within the running of Formula One.
