Abu Dhabi is not a shoot-out for McLaren

(McLaren Mercedes)

McLaren Mercedes Kevin Magnussen has insisted that this weekend's season finale Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina circuit is NOT a shoot-out between him and team mate Jenson Button. The pair have been left in the dark over what the team will do next season in relation to their driver line-up for next season when they make the switch to Honda power.

Speaking to ESPN, Magnussen stated:

't's the last race of the season and we haven't signed yet so it's not that, but it's the last race and we'll see what happens after that.'

Speaking to the official Formula One website about Fernando Alonso the Dane stated:

'I think for every team in the paddock Fernando would be a good choice, but as Jenson is a fantastic team-mate I have to say that I would have no preference.'

Magnussen's best performance of the season so far came at the opening race of the season the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne where he finished the race in second place while Jenson Button secured his best result of the season in third place.

Button is currently in seventh on 106 points while Kevin Magnussen is currently in 10th place on 55 points,
