2014 Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has urged his former McLaren team to retain Jenson Button for the 2015 season. Button who is out of contract with the Woking based outfit and has been forced to wait until at least December 1 to find out whether or not he will remain with the team next season.

Kevin Magnussen's Formula One future is also up in the air as is also yet to be confirmed for next season as the Woking based outfit make the switch from Mercedes to Honda power in 2015.

Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team's Lewis Hamilton who was Button's McLaren team mate from 2010 - 2012 has stated that he would like to see the outfit retain both Magnussen and Button. Button joined the team as reigning world champion in 2010 having won the  championship with the Brawn Grand Prix team.

Despite not adding to his championship's over the five season's Button has been with McLaren he has won eight Grand Prix with the team. Speaking to the Press Association Lewis Hamilton stated:

'Jenson's been in Formula One for a long time, he's had an exceptional career, and he's still young. On Sunday he drove incredibly well to bring a McLaren up to fifth, and with a great driver (Magnussen) alongside him who wasn't able to do the same with the same car.'

Button is the most experienced driver on the Formula One grid having entered Formula One in 2000 with Williams BMW team.

It is understood that former Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso will join McLaren Honda next season after Ferrari announced last week that Alonso will leave the team despite having two years to run on his Ferrari contract.
