Mercedes make history in Abu Dhabi

(Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team)

Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team's Nico Rosberg helped the German engine manufacturer make history in Abu Dhabi on Saturday as by taking pole position for the final race of the season the German ensured that a Silver Arrows powered car has taken pole position for every Grand Prix of the 2014 Formula One season such has been the dominance of the Mercedes AMG Hybrid 1,6 litre V6 turbo charged power unit,

In 2014, Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team's driver Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg between them claimed all but one of the 19 pole positions. The Mercedes powered Williams Martini Racing Team powered by Mercedes were the only other team to take pole when Felipe Massa secured the Grove based outfits first pole position and and front row lock out since the 2003 German Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian Grand Prix, a race which Nico Rosberg went on to win.

This is a a massive achievement for Mercedes when you consider that the new hybrid power units were only introduced at the the start of the 2014 Formula One season and this is testament to the extremely hard work carried out in Brixworth and Stuttgart.

The last time that a single engine manufacturer managed to secure every pole position in one season was when Ford did just that in 1969.
