Massa can achieve his full potential at Williams

(Williams Martini Racing)

Williams Martini Racing Team's new Head of Vehicle Performance Rob Smedley believes that the Grove based outfit is the perfect environment to enable the Brazilian to achieve his full potential. The pair worked together at Ferrari for eight years and Smedley says that Massa is in a better state of mind and can perform at a higher level at Williams then he did when he was at Ferrari.

Massa joined Ferrari in 2006 where he was team mate to Michael Schumacher before the German retired from the sport for the first time. In 2007, Massa was joined at the Italian team by Kimi Raikkonen. That season the Finn won the championship while Massa finished fourth in the championship.

In 2008, it was Massa's time to shine as he just missed out on winning the driver's championship by one point to Lewis Hamilton. In 2009, Massa suffered life threatening head injuries following a horrendous crash during practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Despite his injuries, Massa made a full recovery and returned to Ferrari in 2010 with Fernando Alonso as his team mate. That year we had the infamous 'Fernando is faster then you' radio message.

With Massa now at Williams, Smedley had this to say:

'It's no secret I know Felipe Massa very, very well, I know him inside out and I can you that he is a very, very good driver.

Smedley believes that Massa knows what he has to do at Williams and he also believes that Massa can motivate the team which will allow them to achieve the results that they are looking for this year.

There have been suggestions that Williams have somewhat underachieved so far this season, however, that is silly to say as we are only three race's into a completely new formula so it is still way too early to judge their performance however this year, the team have done a fantastic job as they scored 30 point's in the first three GrandPrix of the season which is a massive improvement on how the Grove based team did last season.
