Formula One teams to be allowed to develop power units throughout this season

(Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team)

The FIA have confirmed that Formula One’s manufacturers will be allowed to develop their power units due to a loophole in the FIA Technical Regulations.

It is unclear when engines need to be homologated as it had been thought that it have to happen prior to the first race of the 2015 season however the FIA have admitted that this may not be the case.

The FIA have now told the teams that the 2015 engine regulations are open to interpretation which means that they will if the wish be allowed to develop their power units throughout the 2015 Formula One season.

The news will not be welcomed by Honda as they are a new engine manufacturer from this season.

Infiniti Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Ferrari were also looking for the engine regulations to be relaxed to allow them the opportunity to catch up with runaway 2014 champions the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team.
