Mercedes Motorsport boss Toto Wolff has denied rumours that Lewis Hamilton will be paid £1 million a week in a three year contract extension.

It was reported in The Times newspaper on Saturday that the 2014 world champion had agreed a new contract worth that much. Wolff stated that the reports of the new deal were ‘nonsense’. Wolff went on to tell Sky Sports News HQ:

‘I think with these numbers you must question where you get your drugs from.’ I don’t want to even comment on this nonsense.’

The Austrian confirmed that negotiations with Lewis Hamilton are progressing well and he wants to stay and the team want him to stay.

Wolff stated that with the new season starting in just two weeks’ time everyone is expecting a contract to be in place by now but that this has no influence on the current situation within the team.
