Sahara Force India's Sergio Perez is optimistic that he will be driving with the Silverstone based outfit next season. Speaking at the FIA driver press conference on Thursday the Mexican said that his is closing in a contract extension with the team.

Perez joined the team from McLaren with the deal being struck extremely late. He has been extremely competitive this season and gave Force India their first podium finish since the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix when he finished the Bahrain Grand Prix in third place behind the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Speaking about next season, the Mexican said:

'I think we should be very close to committing for next year with the team,. But, you never know and I have experience in the past so you never know what is going to happen.'

Perez finished last season with 49 points for McLaren and is currently on 39 points and is currently in eleventh place in the championship on 39 points with six Grand Prix remaining this season.

The Mexican is looking forward to this weekend's night race at the Singapore Grand Prix as the team will have an upgrade package for the VJM07 which they hope will help they to be competitive at the Marina Bay circuit.
