F1 is in great shape

(Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team)

Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team Executive Director (Business) Toto Wolff believes that the challenge his outfit are currently facing from Scuderia Ferrari is proof that Formula One is in great shape.

Wolff stated that it is important that the commercial rights holder does not have one team running away with the championship like the Brackley based outfit did during last season, the first year under the current regulations. Scuderia Ferrari are currently in second place in the championship on 107 points, 52 behind current championship leaders Mercedes.

At the Bahrain Grand Prix last weekend Mercedes Lewis Hamilton took his third victory of the season winning the race by just 3.380s from Kimi Raikkonen.

It was the fourth time in four Grand Prix that Ferrari have been on the podium. Sebastian Vettel finished the opening race on the podium and went on to win the Malaysian Grand Prix before scoring another podium finish in China.

Wolff comments come after Bernie Ecclestone accused the Mercedes chief by telling the media that he can carry ‘I helped kill Formula One’ on his grave stone.

However that statement is far from the truth as Ferrari have shown so far this season that not only can they match Mercedes but they can also beat them on pure race pace.
