McLaren Honda drivers Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button
believe that the Woking based outfits best opportunity to be competitive in the
next couple of Grand Prix will come in next month’s Monaco Grand Prix.
The team endured a mixed Grand Prix last time out at the
Bahrain Night race as although Fernando Alonso finished the race in eleventh
place, Jenson Button failed to start the Grand Prix due to various mechanical
issues with the MP4-30 which meant that the 2009 world champion could only
complete 17 laps of the Sakhir circuit over the course of the weekend.
Honda will introduce a new power unit upgrade for the
Spanish Grand Prix next time out and McLaren believe that the upgrade will help
the team at the following race in Monaco as that circuit needs less power due
to the fact that it is a street circuit.
Alonso believes that the low power circuits such as Monaco
will help the team to be more competitive but that right now the team just need
to take it step by step and see what happens next time out in Spain.
