Scuderia Ferrari have revealed that they want to retain Kimi
Raikkonen alongside Sebastian Vettel for the 2016 Formula One season. The
Prancing Horse however have stated that they will not take up an option on his
contract as they feel the Finn performs better under pressure.
The Iceman picked up first podium finish for Ferrari since
the 2009 Italian Grand Prix last weekend at the Bahrain Grand Prix after he
finished the race in second place just behind Lewis Hamilton and this followed
two fourth place finishes in Malaysia and China. Raikkonen is now up to fourth
place in the championship just behind team mate Sebastian Vettel.
Formula One heads to the Spanish Grand Prix at the Barcelona
Circuit De Catalunya where Raikkonen finished the race in third place for the
Lotus F1 Team on his return to the sport. In 2013 the Finn ended the race once again
on the podium in second place. Last season, Raikkonen finished the race in
seventh place.
The Finn has a great record in Barcelona scoring multiple
podium’s including two victories one in 2008 for Ferrari and in 2005 for
McLaren Mercedes. The Iceman will be hoping for a similar result this season.
