Mercedes may implement team orders if victories are threatened

(Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team)

Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team Executive Director (Business) Toto Wolff has warned Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg that the Brackley based outfit will not hesitate to implement team orders if the pit-wall feel that race wins are threatened by Scuderia Ferrari.

Wolff comments come after Nico Rosberg publically accused team mate Hamilton of deliberately slowing down during the race and backing the German up so that his second place would come under threat from Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari.

Vettel has secured one race victory so far this season after winning the Malaysian Grand Prix while Kimi Raikkonen showed that the SF15-T has great race pace following two fantastic race performances in Malaysia and China.

Wolff said that reigning world champion Hamilton didn’t do anything wrong in the Chinese Grand Prix but if the team feel that the situation warrants action then the pit-wall will be more forceful over the radio.

Wolff also stated that as a brand the team have a big responsibility to get the best results possible. In the first three Grand Prix of the season, the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team have secured two Grand Prix victories with Lewis Hamilton taking first place in both Australia and China.

As it stands Mercedes are currently leading the Constructors championship on 119 points, 40 ahead of Scuderia Ferrari in second place which is the championship where the money comes from for the teams.
