Hamilton not seeking number 1 status

(Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team)

Head of Mercedes Motorsport Toto Wolff has denied claims that reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton is seeking number 1 status at the Brackley based outfit.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix, Wolff said that Hamilton, whose current contract with Mercedes expires at the end of the season knows that the team do not operate with a number 1 status and they get equal treatment.

Hamilton believed that a new contract would be concluded prior to the Chinese Grand Prix last weekend however that did not happen leading to media reports that the double world champion was looking for too much money.

Wolff confirmed that the terms of the contract have been agreed and that it is now going between the lawyers.

Wolff hopes that the new contract will be completed within the next few weeks.
