Scuderia Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen gave his chances of remaining at the team next season a major boost as the Finn secured his first podium for the outfit since his return to the Maranello squad last season.

Speaking following the race Raikkonen said that the team made the right call by putting him on the Option tyre in his second stint despite the fact that he came over the radio to say that he was happy with the Medium compound tyre. Raikkonen’s result now moves him up to fourth place in the championship just behind team mate Sebastian Vettel.

The Finn started the race from 4th place on the grid and made a fantastic start to the race to get ahead of Mercedes Nico Rosberg right at the start of the race.

Raikkonen has had three top four finishes in the last four Grand Prix. Raikkonen is out of contract at the end of the season and Ferrari Team Principal Maurizio Arrivabene told BBC F1’s Eddies Jordan that the Finn needs to prove his deserves to keep his seat with strong results and his second place in Bahrain has shown that the Iceman is back.

Raikkonen has also stated that he believes the SF15-T will suit all the circuits on the calendar this season and so far the Italian team have been on the podium ever race so far this season.

The Iceman’s podium today was his first for Ferrari since the 2009 Italian Grand Prix in Monza.
