Sahara Force India’s Sergio ‘Checco’ Perez is hopeful that
the team can challenge for a strong points finish at this weekend’s Bahrain
Grand Prix. Speaking at Thursday’s FIA driver’s press conference ahead of round
four of the 2015 Formula One season the Mexican said that the team can dream of
a podium on Sunday.
At the Bahrain Grand Prix last season, Perez secured the Silverstone
based outfit’s first podium finish since the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix when he
finished the race in third place behind the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and
Nico Rosberg.
This season the team have struggled however following a
delay in getting the new car, the VJM08 finished which meant that they were
only able to run for the final two days of winter testing in Barcelona and as a
result they went into the start of the new season on the back foot.
In the opening race of the season in Melbourne Australia,
Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez finished in seventh and tenth place
respectively. The team have struggled since then suffering a double DNF at the
Malaysian Grand Prix while last time out in China Nico Hulkenberg was forced to
retire from the race while Perez finished the race in eleventh place.
The team who will introduce a new B-Spec VJM08 for the
Austrian Grand Prix which they hope will help them to revitalise their season
will be hoping to score more points on Sunday. The Silverstone based outfit are
currently in seventh place in the championship on seventh points.
