Former Formula One driver Jacques Villeneuve has criticised
the Manor Marussia F1 Team saying that the outfit would be better off in the
GP2 championship of the Renault 3.5 Series as they are not competitive in the
sport.
Villeneuve, who won the world championship with Williams in
1997 also criticised Fernando Alonso’s decision to return to the McLaren team
with Honda saying that he feels that the Spaniard will never win a race again
in Formula One.
However in relation to the Manor Marussia F1 Team, their Sporting
Director Graeme Lowdon stated in Bahrain that the team would not be in Formula
One without the massive support they continue to receive from fans following
criticism from Formula One Supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
Villeneuve has always been out spoken on issues in Formula
One. The Canadian stated that the Pinnacle of motorsport is expensive and that
they shouldn’t be there is they can’t be competitive.
However the new owner of the team Stephen Fitzpatrick would
not have invested in the outfit if he felt that the project was not worth it.
