The Ferrari Formula One team had a disappointing home race at the Italian Grand Prix at the Monza circuit this after as Fernando Alonso who started the race from seventh place on the grid suffered his first retirement as a Ferrari driver following and Energy Recovery System failure which shut down his Ferrari power unit. The Spaniard has been with the outfit since 2010. Speaking following the race Alonso said:

'Obviously we are not happy with the results in front of our people, To have a mechanical failure is never nice because the team is working very hard and when some parts cannot finish the race that is a hard moment for the boys. For the fans, we were not giving them any special result.

We have been in a difficult season but nevertheless from Thursday everyone was supporting us to the maximum here and we felt this love for our team in the good and bad moments.'

For the first race weekend in a long time Kimi Raikkonen had a trouble free run with no issues and the car looked extremely competitive and it looked like he would be on for a great result in front of the tifosi today but following a difficult qualifying session yesterday which saw start down in eleventh place the Finn had a difficult race and finished the race in 9th place to salvage two points for the Italian team.

Raikkonen has had a extremely difficult return to Ferrari this season following two successful season's with the Lotus F1 Team. The Finn is currently in 10th place in the Dirvers championship on 41 points.

Commenting after the race Raikkonen said:

'No problems, just the grip and speed were lacking, I could get close to other drivers, but I couldn't follow them closely. It was very tricky trying to pass them and the straight-line speed was lacking.'

The team head to the Singapore night race in two weeks time hopeful that they will be regain third place from the Williams Martini Racing Team as the Grove based outfit beat overtook them today.
