Gene Haas, founder of the Haas F1 Team has confirmed today after months of speculation that his new team that will make its Formula One debut in 2016 will be powered by a supply of Ferrari power units. Earlier this season Haas Automotive announced a deal with Ferrari so it was expected that they sign a deal with the Italian manufacturer for an F1 power unit deal.
The multi-year deal was announced by Ferrari team principal Marco Mattiacci. Speaking about the deal the Italian said:
'We're delighted to announce this important strategic partnership with Haas F1 Team and to welcome an American player as a new entrant in Formula 1, A few months ago we joined forces with Gene Haas on a commercial level and this is the natural next step of our growing relationship.'
Haas commented on the deal by saying:
'There is no team in Formula 1 more accomplished than Scuderia Ferrari, and no team with more history. They've been a part of Formula 1 from the beginning, and now they'll be a part of Haas F1 Team's beginning.'
At present the deal is just an engine supply agreement however Haas has stated that he the team are keen to extend the supply deal to include a technical link up with the Italian company to allow them to move up the grid as soon as possible.
The United States is Ferrari's biggest market and it is a massive coup for Haas to become a supply unit deal with the Italian company. As part of the new agreement Haas will have a dedicated team of Ferrari engineers who will work directly with the team. Ferrari are the most successful team in Formula One and that will be a big boost for the Haas F1 Team.
