Former world champion Sir Jackie Stewart has urged the
powers that be in Formula One not to forget about historical importance of the
European races as the sport moves further afield to new venues.
Only three of the so called traditional European Grand Prix in
Silverstone, Spa Francorchamps, Monaco and Monza after commercial rights holder
Bernie Ecclestone confirmed that for the first time since 1960 that there will
no German Grand Prix this season. The news of the demise of the German Grand
Prix comes despite the fact that the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team are the
Constructors championship last year.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Stewart said that Formula
One needs to respect the historical Grand Prix.
The Italian Grand Prix in Monza is also under threat as a
deal is has not yet been reached between the race promoter and the commercial
rights holder beyond the 2016 season.
The sport have new fantastic venues places like China, the
United States, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Mexico City which
returns to the Formula One calendar this season.
