Hamilton unhappy with Rosberg boos

(Mercedes AMG F1 Team)

Mercedes AMG F1 Team's Lewis Hamilton has stated that he felt awkward on the podium after team mate Nico Rosberg was, for the second race in a row booed on the podium. Hamilton took his seventh race win of the season at last weekend's Italian Grand Prix to close the gap in the championship to 22 points to the German.

Rosberg was also booed on the podium at the Belgian Grand Prix after the racing incident which saw Hamilton forced to retire from the race while the German went on to finish the race in second place behind Infiniti Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo.

Speaking to ESPN Hamilton commented:

'When I was up there it felt a bit awkward when I heard they were booing for Nico because I just generally don't like that in sport in general, even in football games. Away from the pitch and once we come out of the race everyone should be nice to everyone really, that's the feeling I have'.

Hamilton believes that the main reason the fans were booing at the podium celebrations was because the Italian fans are so passionate about Ferrari and there was no Ferrari driver on the podium in Monza this season.

The top three finishers on the podium deserve to be there as they were the ones who performed the best over the course of Sunday's race.
