McLaren Racing Director Eric Boullier has acknowledged that McLaren could run its new Honda power unit this year despite the fact that earlier this week Honda Motorsport boss Yasuhisa Arai stated that a McLaren Honda would not run until the opening pre season test in Jerez next year.
However Boullier has stated that the team are working on an early debut for the new power unit which could come at the end of season Abu Dhabi test which takes place following the season ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
'Regarding the first tests of a McLaren-Honda powered car, there is no decision yet about when and where, This is still open and it is true that there was a comment [from Arai], but we will not give a definite answer now because we do not know exactly. But it is very likely that it will be before Jerez as well.'
In 2015 McLaren will have an exclusive 'works' relationship with the Japanese manufacturer however Honda have not ruled out the possibility of supplying more then one team after 2015.
Boullier confirmed that the team will run the new Honda unit in Jerez but that if the schedule allows them to and if Honda feel it is necessary they may run earlier than planned depending on how Honda feel they are getting on with the reliability of their new power unit.
