This weekend Pirelli have brought the white walled Medium compound tyre and the orange walled Hard compound tyre. The most number of laps completed on the Hard tyre was 26 with a total of 67 laps on that tyre while the highest number of laps completed on the Medium tyre was 30 while 22 sets of the Medium compound tyre were used.
Pirelli expect that there will just be one pit-stop made over the course of Sunday's race. In the first Free Practice session Lewis Hamilton set his fastest time of 1m 26.187s on a set of used Hard compound tyre's.
In the second session Nico Rosberg set his fastest time of 1m 26.225s on a brand new set of the Medium compound tyre.
Speaking about today's running Pirelli Motorsport Director Paul Hembery commented:
'We’ve seen about 0.6 seconds difference between the two compounds in Monza so far, and we would expect that difference not to alter much for the rest of the weekend. Both compounds look to be very durable, with degradation also very low. As a result, we would expect to see one stop for most drivers on Sunday, as was the case last year.
The drivers could qualify on the medium or the hard tyre, but we should see the medium compound used for the majority of the race. Like every year, we’ve had a wonderful welcome from all the Italian fans here, who are among the most passionate and enthusiastic supporters in the world, so it’s a real pleasure to be here.'
