New elements working well for Williams

(Williams Martini Racing F1 Team)

The Williams Martini Racing Team completed a productive day on Friday as the outfit evaluated an aerodynamic update for the FW36 today. In the opening session this morning Valtteri Bottas finished the session in 12th place with a fastest time of 1m 28.148s while in the second session the Finn was in 5th place setting a fastest time of 1m 26.758s. Speaking after the session Bottas commented:

'We tested the new aero package today which works well. With the low down-force the car does slide a bit more, but it’s manageable. I am really pleased with the long run pace, but think there is a little more to get from it. Qualifying is going to be tight tomorrow, so we are all ready to work hard tonight and find all the gains we can.'

Felipe Massa heads into this weekend's Italian Grand Prix, the last European race of the season looking to secure his first podium finish of the 2014 season and his first with the Grove based outfit.

In this morning's session the Brazilian finished in 13th fastest place with a 1m 28.150s while in the second session he finished in 9th place with a fastest time of 1m 26.935s. Commenting after Friday's running Massa said:

'The day was ok; we have a lot of work to do overnight and some more tomorrow. We can still make improvements and move further up to be a strong challenger to the teams at the top. We have worked hard throughout the day and completed our programme, so tomorrow we will be able to compare our pace to everyone else’s.'

The Williams Martini Racing Team's Head of Performance Engineering Rob Smedley commented by saying:

'We completed all the work we had planned, plus a bit extra so I am happy with the day. We have some key data from the aero work and the tyre management was good. Our long runs look competitive and both sets of tyres were manageable. We have to do a lot of work together now to prepare for tomorrow, but it’s encouraging to get off to a positive start today.'
