Infiniti Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has confirmed that his drivers are free to continue racing for the moment following calls from Daniel Ricciardo for the team to make a decision on whether or not to impose team orders.
Ricciardo is currently third in the championship on 166 points, 66 clear of team mate and reigning four time world champion Sebastian Vettel with six race's remaining this season. Speaking to the BBC after once again finishing ahead of his team mate at the Italian Grand Prix Ricciardo said that the team may want to consider making a decision in the near future on how to proceed in the championship fight against Mercedes.
Speaking to the telegraph following the race Christian Horner commented:
'The points difference between Daniel and the two Mercedes is enormous, so it doesn't make sense for us to interfere with the two drivers racing, So it's down to what they do on track and that's how they raced today.'
In the last three Grand Prix Ricciardo, has scored a combined total of 60 points and as a result has outscored the Mercedes duo and his team mate Sebastian Vettel thanks to his two victories at the Hungarian and Belgian Grand Prix.
With six race's remaining Ricciardo is 72 points behind championship leader Nico Rosberg while he is 50 point's behind Lewis Hamilton which is just two race wins.
Ricciardo has really stepped up to the plate this season since joining Infiniti Red Bull Racing from Toro Rosso at the end of last season.
