Infiniti Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has confirmed that the reigning world champions have no intention to place a deputy technical director under Adrian Newey. Earlier this season Red Bull announced a new long term agreement with chief technical officer Newey however under the terms of the new agreement Newey will take a step back from the Formula One team.

Newey will oversee a new technical structure within the team before he steps back and Horner has said that this will negate the need for a technical director on a day to day basis within the team. Horner confirmed:

'We are not going to appoint a technical director, we don't need one. We have a strong technical group.'

Horner has confirmed that the people working under Newey will now be in a position to step up as they take on more responsibilities within the Milton Keynes based outfit. Horner also revealed that although Newey will step back from his day to day involvement with the team he will remain involved in some part with the Formula One operation.

Infiniti Red Bull Racing have enjoyed great success under Newey who joined the team from McLaren in 2006 following  number of years with McLaren where he designed two championship winning cars in 1998 and 99 after joining the Woking based squad from the Williams team.

Red Bull are currently in second place in the Constructors championship 174 points behind championship leaders Mercedes.
