Verstappen advised to take Red Bull offer as Mercedes had no space

(Mercedes AMG F1 Team)

Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff has stated that he advised Max Verstappen to accept the Toro Rosso Formula One drive offer from Red Bull as he felt that there was no room at his team for the Dutch teenager.

Wolff confirmed that he held talks with Max Verstappen and his father Jos about the possibility of him joining the team however Wolff was unable to guarantee him a drive with Mercedes in Formula One as the Brackley based outfit have both  championship leader Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton on their books for next season with Rosberg signed up long term with Hamilton expected to commit his future to the Silver Arrows shortly.

Wolff has stated that he feels that Verstappen is one of the most talented drivers that he has seen in recent times.

Verstappen will team up with Daniil Kvyat at Toro Rosso next season and together they will make up the youngest driver pairing on the grid in 2015.
