Ferrari hoping to build on podium finish

The Ferrari team head to the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend off the back of claiming their first podium of the 2014 season last out in China where Fernando Alonso finished in third place behind the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Alonso returns to his home Grand Prix an event which he won last year and although the Italian team have struggled so far in 2014 they will be an upgrade package to the F14T for the opening European race of the season which the team hope will help them to close the gap to Mercedes and Red Bull Racing in the Constructors championship.

Kimi Raikkonen said last week that he is not concerned by his poor start to the 2014 season following his return to Ferrari after two year's with the Lotus F1 Team. The Crcuit de Catalunya has been a great track for the Finn as he finished in second place there last season behind Alonso and he also finished on the podium in 2012 when he finished in third place behind Fernando Alonso.

Raikkonen has struggled to match Fernando Alonso so far this season and the pair have the name number of victories in Spain. Raikkonen won in Barcelona in 2005 and 2008, while Alonso won the race last season and in 2006.

It is unlikely that the Italian team will be able to challenge for the victory on Sunday such is the current dominance of the Mercedes team, however they will be hoping that they can have both cars challenging for the final podium place and indeed a strong point's finish.

At last season's race Alonso was joined on the podium by then Ferrari team mate Felipe Massa who finished the Grand Prix in third place just ahead of Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel.
