McLaren Mercedes head to the opening race of the European season in Barcelona this weekend ium at least on to get their 2014 campaign back on track following a number of disappointing race's for the Woking outfit.
The season started extremely well for Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen as the pair scored the teams first double podium in over a year finishing second and third behind race winner Meredes Nico Rosberg. Since then however the teams performance's have faltered slightly and after leading the championship in the very early stages of the season the team now find themselves in 5th place in the championship on 43 points.
At last season's Spanish Grand Prix Jenson Button and Sergio Perez finished the race in eighth and ninth place respectively and the team will be hoping for a much stronger performance this season particularly as they failed to score points in the last two rounds of the championship in Bahrain (where both cars suffered identical clutch failures and again last time out in China.
Jenson Button has scored two podium's here and that includes when he won the race in his championship winning year for Brawn GP in 2009. This season, due to the dominance of the Mercedes duo a win is most likely out of reach but this is Formula One and absolutely anything can happen and you can be guaranteed that the team at Woking will be absolutely everything in the power to ensure that both Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen have the upgrade package capable of challenging for a podium at least on Sunday afternoon.
For Kevin Magnussen he has never raced in Barcelona as an F1 driver so it will be very interesting to see what the Dane can do.
Since the last race in China, McLaren have announced the signing of Tony Salter from Sauber and Guillaume Cattelani from the Lotus F1 Team.
