Politics could force Button out of McLaren

(McLaren-Honda)

Former McLaren driver David Coulthard believes that the teams driver decision could go against Jenson Button. The 2009 world champion has been with the Woking based outfit since joining them as reigning world champion in 2010 from the Brawn GP team and in his three season's with Lewis Hamilton he frequently beat the 2014 world champion.

Coulthard, who drove for McLaren from 1996 to 2004 believes that team politics could see Button dropped in favour of Magnussen as a number of the team's partners are Danish.

Button beat Magnussen in both qualifying and in Grand Prix and finished in eighth place in Drivers championship on 126 points while Magnussen finished the season in eleventh place on just 55 points.

However speaking to the Daily Mail Coulthard believes that Button may lose out due to the financial side of the sport. The BBC F1 commentator believes that McLaren should retain Button next season due to his experience and that in Magnussen's case his has a bright future. Coulthard believes that McLaren could have handled the the situation a lot better.
