Lauda confirms no Vettel approach

(Mercedes AMG F1 Team)

Mercedes AMG F1 Team Non Executive Chairman Niki Lauda has slammed claims from Red Bull adviser Dr Helmut Marko that the German team had made Sebastian Vettel a huge offer to join the Silver Arrows in 2016.

In an interview with Speed Week Lauda said:

'I know absolutely for sure and clearly that we have not made any offer to Sebastian,'

Mercedes are clearly very happy with both Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton and Rosberg recently signed a multi year extension to his Mercedes contract and it won't be long before the team seat down with Hamilton to discuss a new contract.

The 2008 world champion's contract with the Silver Arrows expires at the end of next season so it may not be until next season that the team sit down with Hamilton about a new contract.

Sebastian Vettel has been part of the Red Bull set up for many years and and has won four world championships with the Milton Keynes based outfit and is more then likely going to extend his stay at Infiniti Red Bull Racing.

Formula One is like a game of chess where it takes time for driver movements to be decided. A number of contract's are up at the end of next season so next season the Summer break will play a key role in the season as this is traditionally when deals are done.
