Lotus confirm Maldonado will stay with the team in 2015

German Grand Prix
(Alastair Staley / Lotus F1 Team)

The Lotus F1 Team have confirmed this evening that Pastor Maldonado will remain with the team in 2015. Speaking to the team's official website team co-owner and team principal confirmed the news saying:

'I don’t want to give too much away, but as it’s half way through the season I can confirm 50% of our driver line-up for 2015 as Pastor is with us for next year. Despite the difficulties we’ve had so far this season, he recognises our true potential as a team and we recognise his true potential as a driver. We will achieve great things together.'

Maldonado who joined the Enstone outfit over the Winter from Williams to replace Kimi Raikkonen has yet to score a point this season but the news that his seat for the 2015 season is secure should ensure that he will be able in a position to challenge for points in upcoming event's as he now a the motivation and extra incentive to help the team move forward.

The Lotus F1 Team will switch to a supply of Mercedes power units after years with Renault to help them to move up the grid next season just like what we have seen with the Williams Martini Racing Team this season since they made the switch from Renault to Mercedes power units for this season.

Lopez was asked about why it has been such a challenge for the team to adapt to the new 2014 regulations to which he replied:

'There’s certainly been a change in the order with the new regulations and in terms of results we have been hit pretty hard. There are many reasons for this and every aspect of the causation is being tackled. The attitude at Enstone is not one of finger-pointing and dwelling on issues, but rather one of positive action to improve the situation. We are taking several steps to make us stronger for the future.'

There has been no news regarding the future of Romain Grosjean who been with the Lotus F1 Team since 2012. However Lopez has said that:

'Romain is well aware of the prowess of Enstone after having finished on the podium for the past two years in one of our cars. Pastor was new to the team for this year but he recognises the potential of the squad.'
