Williams hoping to close the gap to Red Bull

(Williams Martini Racing)

Williams Martini Racing's Felipe Massa has stated that after overtaking Ferrari to go into third place in the Constructors championship last time out at the Italian Grand Prix, the Grove based outfit's target for the rest of the season is to catch Infiniti Red Bull Racing and finish the season as 'best of the rest' behind the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix Massa, who scored his first podium finish as a Williams driver last time out told Reuters:

'We are planning to close the gap in every race... to catch even Red Bull which is a bit far, but you never know, Everything can change pretty quickly in Formula 1 in two or three races. The situation is different. Maybe we have the opportunity to fight for the second place.'

The Williams team are currently 95 points behind Infiniti Red Bull Racing with just six Grand Prix remaining this season. Red Bull have taken three Grand Prix victories so far this season whereas Williams are yet to take to the top step of the podium this season but have had a pole position and have scored five podium's.

Massa believes that the Singapore circuit could be a tricky one for the Williams Martini Racing team but he feels that the outfit will be in a position to challenge for the podium.

Massa believes that Williams Martini Racing have done a fantastic job this season and feels that the team can take what they have learnt from this season and carry it through to next season when they hope that they can challenge for the victories and even more podium finishes,
