Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo heads to Bahrain this weekend hoping that he will be able to put the disappointing start to his Red Bull career behind him and to come away from the race with points on the board. The Australian drove brilliantly during his home race in Melbourne last month to claim a fantastic second place only for it to be taken from him following his disqualification.
Last weekend's race was no better as he was penalized for a mistake by his mechanics during one of his pit-stop's which resulted in him receiving a penalty. He was later handed a 10 place grid penalty for this weekend's event at the Sakhir circuit. The best position that he can start from 11th on the grid so it will be a case of playing the long game for Ricciardo.
Speaking ahead of Sunday's night race he said:
'I'm going to Bahrain thinking that I have to be starting 11th, and need an aggressive start to get me back into contention. I need to get some points on the board and that's not going to happen if I'm cruising around in the middle of the pack. That said, I don't think I need to change anything much. I think I'm driving with good intensity, so I don't need to do anything dramatically different.'
The team will find out in the build up to the Chinese Grand Prix if Daniel Ricciardo's appeal has been successful as his appeal will be heard in Paris on Monday 14th April. Red Bull emerged as Mercedes main rivals in Malaysia where reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel finished in third place albeit 24.5 seconds behind race winner Lewis Hamilton.
