It's official - Haas granted 2015 F1 entry

(USAToday.com)

It's official!! Formula One has a new team for the 2015 season. As I reported earlier today the FIA have finally confirmed that American Gene Haas has been granted an entry to the Formula One World Championship from 2015 onwards. The new team becomes the first all American F1 entrant since Penske pulled out of the sport in 1978.

Confirming the news in a statement Haas, who runs a successful NASCAR team with Tony Stewart said:

'Obviously, we're extremely pleased to have been granted a Formula One licence by the FIA, it's an exciting time for me, Haas Automotive and anyone who wanted to see an American team return to Formula One'.

It is expected that Haas will announce more details regarding his Formula One entry next week. He is also well aware of the mammoth task ahead of the team in order to prepare for the 2015 season.

He said:

'I want to thank the FIA for this opportunity and the diligence everyone put forth to see our licence application come to fruition.'

It is fantastic to see a new team to entry Formula One and the fact that the team is from the United States should go a long way in helping to propel the sport to success in North America particularly as we will have an American team competing at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin Texas next season.
