The Williams Martini Racing Team had an extremely impressive qualifying session at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain as Valtteri Bottas will start Sunday's race from third place on the grid and in doing so is the best behind the Mercedes duo of pole sitter Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.
Felipe Massa put in a good performance too and will start the race from seventh on the grid. The Brazilian's former Ferrari race engineer Rob Smedley is making his first race appearance since starting work for the Grove based team on Monday.
When asked by Sky F1's Ted Kravitz what it felt like to be with the new team Smedley said:
'Third and Seventh on the grid, the guy's did a fantastic job. It's a very professional outfit to be honest'.
When asked about the prospects for tomorrow, Smedley said: 'We know we have good race pace as we tested here extensively in February. The strategy will clear cut about what we have to do'.
The Grove squad head into tomorrow's race having been embroiled in a 'team orders row' following the Malaysian Grand Prix. However the team's test and development driver Susie Wolff said during Sky F1's coverage that the team had a plan that if Bottas had not been able to catch Jenson Button for 6th place in Malaysia he would have handed back the place to Massa. Massa went on to lead his team mate home.
The team have said that there will not be a repeat of what happened in Malaysia. It is going to be interesting to see how they get on in the race.
