Perez aiming for the podium following strong qualifying performance

(Sahara Force India Formula One Team)

Sergio Perez is hoping to convert his superb qualifying performance into a podium finish for the Sahara Force India Formula One Team. The Mexican, who failed to make the start of the last race in Malaysia will start today's night race in Bahrain from 4th on the grid, showing that the VJM07 has great pace. His team mate Nico Hulkenberg was certain to up there with him but made a small mistake in qualifying and will start the race from 11th on the grid but the German has shown that he can carve his way through the field so it is going to be extremely interesting to see what he can do today.

Speaking following qualifying Perez said:

'It was definitely a great qualifying session and the team did a fantastic job to give me such a competitive car'. He went on to say: 'After the problems we had in the first two races I feel this has been the first real opportunity to show the potential of the car'.

At last year's race here Perez hit his then team mate Jenson Button he went on to finish in 6th place while Force India secured a fantastic fourth place with Paul Di Resta so the Sakhir circuit certainly appears to suit the Force India with it's mix of slow speed corners and high speed straights.

Perez has said that for the team the aim of today's race has to be to secure a podium, however he will have some stiff competition as he has the extremely competitive Williams FW36 of Valtteri Bottas ahead of him on the grid and has Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen directly behind him in fifth place with former team mate Jenson Button starting the race from 6th for McLaren.

If Perez is successful in his bid to get on the podium today it would be the Silverstone squads first podium since Giancarlo Fisichella secured a superb 2nd place finish at the 2009 Belgian GrandPrix finishing behind Kimi Raikkonen after starting the race from pole position.
