Infiniti Red Bull Racing Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey has revealed that he wanted a change following the news today that the Englishman will take a step back from his day to day Formula One duties from the beginning of next year.
Speaking to Sky Sports in Canada following the announcement of the new agreement with Red Bull Newey said:
'I had a great time in Formula 1 but it's time to get involved in some different things, I've loved the career I've had, but I feel that I need some new challenges and stimulation.'
Newey revealed that after over 20 years involved in Formula One it was time for a new challenge. Sky Sports F1 commentator Martin Brundle revealed that Newey was extremely close to signing for Ferrari however was looking for two years to find his feet with the team but has been persuaded to remain within the Red Bull set up.
It remains unclear what the new projects will entail but Newey hinted previously that he would like to design a vessel for the America's Cup so a new project with Red Bull could involve something like that.
