Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen has said that his mystified by the team's lack of performance over the course of the Canadian Grand Prix. The Finn, who was competing in his 200th Grand Prix started the race from 10th place on the grid and made a good start however during the race he spun coming out of the hairpin coming onto the back straight and it was the second time over the weekend that the Ferrari driver had done that.
He was down in 12th place in the latter stages of the race and inherited a place in the point's when both Sergio Perez and Felipe Massa collided on the entry into turn one.
Speaking following the race on Sunday Raikkonen said:
'It can feel very difficult one lap and then suddenly a few laps later it's like the tyres work better. I cannot explain it or tell the reason otherwise we would know also. It seemed to have turned to being pretty ok again [by the end] but I don't know, we have to look into those things.'
The Finn went on to say:
'At the start it felt ok, then the tyres go away and then we change the tyres and it feels ok next lap, but it's hard to say. We had to follow a lot of people which didn't help, then suddenly it feels like the tyres are going away and then the next lap it's a different story so it's very difficult to understand what is going on.'
Raikkonen and team mate Fernando Alonso have struggled so far this season in the same area's of the F14-T and despite bringing upgrades to the car for the Grand Prix in Montreal however they were not able to get the best performances from the dates and as a result Fernando Alonso finished the race in 6th place while Kimi Raikkonen finished the race in 10th.
The last time Formula One was in Austria in 2003, Raikkonen then driving for McLaren finished the race in 2nd place behind race winner, Ferrari's Michael Schumacher. It will be interesting to see how the Scuderia get on at the Red Bull Ring.
