Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe will miss
this weekend’s Indianapolis 500 after undergoing surgery at the IU Health
Methodist hospital after making contact with the SAFER barrier in his No.5
Arrow/Lucas Oil car at Turn 3 sliding sideways down to Turn 4, during today’s
practice session ahead of Sunday’s 99th running of the Indianapolis
500.
The Toronto native who is in his first season with Schmidt
Peterson had qualified in 24th place with a four lap average of
223.519mph.
The accident was the fifth such incident in the last month
of preparation for the Indianapolis 500 with four of those accident’s happening
over the last week of the preparation. It is unclear whether or not a
replacement will be found for the Canadian’s No.5.
