Honda Racing’s Yasuhisa Arai is confident that the McLaren F1 Team will secure podium finishes before the end of the season despite an extremely tough start to their new renewed partnership.

McLaren Honda’s struggles continued last weekend as Fernando Alonso was forced to retire from the race following a brake failure caused by a visor tear off from the Spaniard’s helmet. Although Jenson Button finished the race he ended up in 16th place one lap down on race Nico Rosberg.

McLaren went into this season under no illusions that they would face a tough challenge in 2015 with Honda but they after five Grand Prix they may have hoped to score some points at this point in the season. Following Sunday’s Grand Prix Jenson Button stated that he doubted that the team would be in a position to score points this season let alone a podium.

Arai believes that McLaren were unlucky in Spain and they should be in a position to challenge for points in Monaco and Canada and podiums in the middle of the season.

Jenson Button ended the Barcelona test in 4th place for the Woking based outfit on Wednesday completing 98 laps.
