Pirelli Motorsport Director Paul Hembery has stated that the Italian tyre manufacturer will work with the Formula One teams to look at what the problem is in relation to regulation change approved on Thursday by the FIA that will allow teams to choose their own compounds for each race from next season.

Up until this year Pirelli have announced the tyre allocation for each race however from 2016 this is set to change as teams will be asked to pick two of Pirelli’s four compounds for each Grand Prix.
Prior to Thursday’s meeting Pirelli had raised concerns about the prospect of allowing teams a free choice of tyre as it would be extremely expensive for the tyre supplier to produce the tyres. However it has now been approved.

Pirelli have four compounds

Soft
Super Soft
Medium
Hard

Pirelli have also welcomed the introduction from 2017 of wider tyres however the Italian manufacturer has yet to confirm a deal with Formula One as their current contract runs until the end of next season.
