Hulkenberg happy with Force India progress

(Sahara Force India Formula One Team)

Sahara Force India's Nico Hulkenberg heads into this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix following a strong start to his 2014 Formula One campaign. The German, who re-joined Force India following a season with the Sauber F1 Team has qualified in 7th place for the first two race's of the season in Australia and Malaysia. He finished both races in the top ten, finishing 6th in Melbourne and 5th in Malaysia.

Hulkenberg is currently in 6th place in Driver's standings with 18 points. Speaking ahead of Sunday's race in Bahrain Hulkenberg has stated that he is confident that the Silverstone based team can continue to challenge the frontrunners for strong point's finishes. The German said:

'I think the performance in Malaysia was very encouraging, especially because we managed it with a two-stop strategy and nobody else near the front managed that. We've had two good races and have scored a lot of points already. I think we have a strong foundation and we can now build on that.'

'The car is good, but there are still areas that we need to focus and work on so we have to keep the development rate high.

'In terms of performance I expect something similar to Malaysia, in Bahrain. I think the aim must be for us to qualify in the top ten again and score some more points.'

'Bahrain hasn't been the best place for me over the years and I've never had a good result there'

He finished by saying that he hopes to end his poor run at Bahrain with a strong result on Sunday.

While Hulkenberg has had an impressive start to the 2014 season, in contrast his team mate Sergio Perez who joined the team from McLaren at the end of last season has endured an extremely difficult start to the season. The Mexican failed to make the start of the race last time out following a gearbox problem after qualifying in 14th place. Despite this however, he scored a point in Melbourne following Daniel Ricciardo's disqualification from the race so that is at least a result to build on.

Hulkenberg had the pace to challenge Ferrari's Fernando Alonso in Malaysia so the team will be hoping that they have similar race pace in Bahrain.
