Mercedes Motorsport boss Toto Wolff believes that reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton only has a slight advantage over team mate Nico Rosberg as they head to the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend.

Rosberg had a fantastic weekend last time out in Bahrain with many suggesting that he is back to his best. The German finished the race in third place behind Scuderia Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen and race winner Lewis Hamilton. Heading to the start of the European leg of the season, Rosberg is 27 points behind Hamilton in the race for the championship.

Wolff however is convinced that Rosberg will come back stronger as the Formula One circus hits Europe.

He told Autosport that in qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix that the pair were separated by just four one hundredths of a second. Hamilton has taken pole position for the opening four Grand Prix of the season.

At the Spanish Grand Prix last season, Lewis Hamilton led home a Mercedes 1-2 finish. Rosberg will aiming for it to end the other way around to pick up his first victory of the season and to close the gap to Hamilton.

Wolff has conceded however that Scuderia Ferrari are going to continue to challenge the Brackley based outfit for the rest of the season and that they are in for a tight battle that will go down to the wire.
